Objectives:

  • To provide a highly organized, efficient, thorough conference to review key orthopaedic oncology principles in order to improve competency in patient care. After course completion, attendees will be prepared to:
  • Understand and be able to use the tools of radiologic and pathologic studies in the diagnosis and staging of musculoskeletal tumors and tumor-like conditions. Pertinent, "need-to-know" topics will range from basic science advances to essentials of microscopic histology.
  • Employ the strategy of using multiple disciplines in the care of the musculoskeletal oncology patient. State-of-the-art orthopaedic surgical techniques involved in the care of the limb salvage and amputee patient will be covered.
  • Face current practice gaps in orthopaedic oncologic patient care, including: careful diagnostic work-up; proper approach to biopsy issues; completion of staging evaluation; appropriate treatment; avoidance and management of complications; and provision of expert aftercare.
  • Succeed in professional examinations and the care of the orthopaedic oncology patient.
