Overview:

This two day course will provide a comprehensive update on new technologies and clinical advances in head and neck cancer treatment and head and neck endocrine surgery. The symposium is designed for otolaryngologists/head and neck surgeons, regardless of their practice setting. The course also will be of interest to general surgeons, endocrinologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, oral surgeons, dentists, nurses and physician assistants.

Objectives:

We specifically anticipate improvements in skills and strategies to:

  • Describe common benign and malignant salivary gland pathology;
  • Assess the role of sialendoscopy for salivary gland disorders;
  • Treat HPV-related oropharynx cancers;
  • Determine surgical and non-surgical treatment options for oropharynx and larynx cancers;
  • Optimize reconstructive outcomes after oral cavity cancer surgery;
  • Surgically treat melanomas and other advanced cutaneous malignancies of the head and neck;
  • Recommend cost-effective, evidenced-based imaging surveillance strategies after head and neck cancer treatment;
  • Optimize the evaluation and treatment of benign and malignant thyroid diseases;
  • Improve management of the neck in thyroid cancer;
  • Determine the diagnosis and localization of parathyroid tumors;
  • Improve management of hyperparathyroidism.
